State Highway 6 – 4 Lane Reconstruction
Project Type: Roadway Design, Traffic Engineering and Survey
About this Project
EST provided design services for transitioning 3.5 miles of an existing two lane highway to a four lane divided highway facility. This project was divided into three sub-projects. The first project was the grading of the new two lanes of the parallel alignment, the second project is the surfacing of the new two lanes and the final project is the reconstruction of the existing two lane highway. The existing structures were reevaluated and, where possible, were extended for the four lane divided highway. New structures were designed in areas where the existing structures could not be extended. The construction phasing allowed limited impact on through traffic utilizing the existing pavement during the first two projects and shifting traffic to the new pavement for the final project.
Design services for 9.5 miles of new construction of two lanes with right of way for a four lane divided and five lane undivided facility. The primary objective of this project was to reconstruct SH-33 to meet the current design standards. This project created two new lanes adjacent to the existing lanes and provided construction of cross drain structures for the future four lane divided facility. The last 2 miles of the project extents were transitioned to a five lane undivided facility with a center turn lane. All construction phases allowed for traffic to be maintained along SH-33 during construction.
