SH-152 Traffic Signal Upgrades and Synchronization City of Mustang
Client: City of Mustang
Project Type: Traffic Analysis and Engineering
About this Project
EST was retained to inventory, study, analyze and design improvements to the seven (7) signalized intersections within Mustang on SH 152 corridor with the goal of reducing delays and improving corridor traffic operations. The resulting recommended signal improvements included: upgrading signal controllers and cabinets (by changing out incompatible or old controllers to assure equipment compatibility), installing corridor wide telemetry for controller communications and synchronization, installing video detection, changing traffic operations at selected intersections to protected/permissive left turns (including providing new 21 conductor signal control wiring from cabinet to the terminal block in each existing signal pole), and upgrading all signal indications to LED (including the emergency signal at the fire station). The benefits of these improvements were: 32% reduction in corridor delay, 11% increase in average speed; 9% decrease in travel time; and a 6% decrease in fuel consumption. The overall Performance Index for the corridor showed better than a 25% improvement in the PM peak period. Synchro/SimTraffic was used as the analytical software tool in the analysis of the corridor.
