Madill Bypass – US 70 Realignment Study
- Client: ODOT
- Project Type: Environmental Services, Alignment & Traffic Studies
About this Project
The construction of this project will provide an alternate route around the City of Madill along U.S. Highway 70. At the beginning of the roadway project, the existing highway is a five-lane undivided curb and gutter section. The five-lane facility will be continued east past the intersection of U.S. Highway 177 & U.S. Highway 70 to the proposed bridge over 3rd Street. EST performed an Environmental Reconnaissance Study to evaluate corridor alternatives of a new roadway alignment through urban and residential developments within the town of Madill. The intent was to provide constraint information in support of the alignment study to avoid adverse environmental effects. During the traffic evaluation phase of this project, the annual corridor growth rates and traffic contributions for surrounding streets were determined. The existing traffic data was redistributed in anticipation of the new route. The operations level of service for base and design year for all concepts were determined and used to make lane configuration recommendations. The realignment will be constructed in two phases starting in fiscal year 2019. The first phase begins 0.5 miles west of US-177 junction and extends to SH-199. Once the first phase is complete, new route designations for SH-99 and SH-199 will be established to no longer go through the center of Madill. The second phase will connect to the new route at SH-199 and extend south to connect into existing US-70 south of Archard Road which will complete the realignment of US-70.
